FAQs

WHAT SHOULD I SUBMIT?

We would love for you to send us fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, audio/video, and/or visual artwork that you are passionate about. Send us the piece you love. Send us the piece that you know is your best work. Send us your weirdest piece. Send us your crazy formats and your alien abductions, send us your family dinners, your road trips, your wandering adventures. Send it!

(A more factual, comprehensible answer to this question can be found here)

WHEN WILL I HEAR BACK?

After the reading period is over (usually a few weeks after the submission window closes), we will let you know if your work has been accepted, moved to the next round, or regretfully declined, as quickly as possible via Submittable or Email.

I DON’T KNOW IF I SHOULD SUBMIT (HOW DO I KNOW?)

Here’s the truth: there’s no way to know. The best advice we can offer is to give it a try. If you’re interested in writing, one day you’ll need to come to terms with sharing it with an audience. You may as well start with us—we’re nice!

DO YOU HOST EVENTS? READINGS?

Funny you asked! We are currently planning an open mic inside the UNF Gallery. How do we make that dream a reality? Show us your interest by following us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, where you will also find updates!

Not the answer you were looking for? There are a lot of great events happening in Jacksonville, and we’re just dipping our toes in. Check out these helpful resources to get involved in your community:

WHEN WILL THE NEW ISSUE COME OUT?

Volume 3 Issue 3 is in the works as of Spring 2024. We are currently reading all of your lovely submissions and composing the issue itself. It’s currently on track to be available to read by April. If you’re worried you’ll miss the big release, follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter and you’ll never miss anything again. Really—we know all the things.

HOW DO I JOIN TALON?

This is our favorite question! Talon staff is made up entirely of UNF students (grad students are also eligible). The editorial and reading staff is full for the forthcoming issue, but we will be looking for fresh blood (err..) in the spring. Please send us a message regarding your interest through email (talonreview@gmail.com), a message on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter, or through your local owl post (you can also use our contact form here). No prior experience or knowledge required. If you’ve managed to reach this paragraph on our website, you certainly must be interested, and this truly is a passion project.
